Strong growth being recorded by accountancy firms is expected to drop off into 2009

The UK accountancy market is expected to grow by a rate of 7.2% this year, according to online market research site, researchandmarkets.com

Despite this, the Accountancy Market Report 2008 shows a predicted lapse in growth by 0.6% to 6.4% by the end of 2009, but it is then expected to grow at a marginally higher rate beyond that.

Consolidation activity between accountancy firms is likely, according to the report.

Despite the unparalleled dominance of the Big Four, mid-tier firms reported an increase in growth rates in 2007

Demand for tax advice has remained consistently strong year-on year and this is predicted to continue through the current economic climate.
